Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Center Technician to join our team at Microsoft. As a key member of our Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) group, you will play a critical role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services.

Responsibilities

  • Apply advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting expertise to quickly identify and resolve complex issues.
  • Decommission hardware for complex changes and/or systems with complex interactions, following standard procedures.
  • Delegate hardware installation, deployment, and/or replacement work to technicians, providing expert guidance and oversight.
  • Ensure quality execution as defined by organizational standards, coordinating downtime and keeping stakeholders informed of work status.
  • Assist and provide guidance to technicians to complete challenging or complex tasks, escalating issues as needed.
  • Verify security compliance for decommissions and process data-bearing devices for destruction.
  • Maintain awareness of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) through dashboards and/or monthly performance discussions.
  • Train and mentor technicians through on-the-job training and direct guidance on specific tasks.
  • Attend, conduct, or assist in conducting daily safety briefings, complete required safety training, and provide guidance to technicians to facilitate compliance with safety procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and basic knowledge of computer hardware and components, plus multiple years' experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree in computer science or other field and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
  • Experience working in a production, mission-critical 24x7x365 data center environment.
  • Applicable certifications: ASICS/Inventory Control, CompTIA (A+, Server+, Network+), Basic Structure Cabling (BSC), Data Center Foundation Certification (DCFC), Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), Vendor-Specific Network Certifications.
