Your Role at Baxter

This position reports directly to the Head of Government Affairs & Market Development, EMEA, and will oversee government affairs, market development, and public policy functions for the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland). You'll be involved in commercial business development, educational program development, and regulatory strategies across Baxter's Kidney Care business in the DACH region.

This role can be based in Unterschleißheim near Munich or be home-based in Germany.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Advise and counsel executives on public policy and governmental matters, including pending legislation/regulations and policy initiatives and their implications on the company.
  • Develop a government relations and public policy strategy with executives and the regional business unit head to prioritize actions and resources.
  • Create public affairs strategies to support market development and patient access.
  • Facilitate project management and hands-on implementation of public affairs engagements.
  • Manage patient advocacy relationships and other relevant alliances.
  • Participate in trade organizations, non-governmental organizations, and strategic industry groups to influence legislation, regulations, and public policy affecting the industry and advancing the company's interests.
  • Establish strong external relationships with key government officials, members of parliament, and administrative agency personnel on issues important to the company, such as expanding access to kidney care in the region.
  • Assist in government business transactions with Ministries of Health, Finance, and other relevant government agencies.
  • Develop thought leadership and influence commercial strategies.
  • Collaborate with universities, government agencies, and key opinion leaders to develop education programs and symposia improving adoption of best clinical practices.
  • Manage and balance external and internal resources.

The Ideal Candidate

We seek candidates with 8-15 years of experience in governmental or non-governmental organization and/or trade or industry association, and/or private sector experience including:

  • Leading and building strong external working relationships with key decision-makers and environments in health and business.
  • Knowledge and ability to influence the political/policy process, including managing consultants.
  • Experience in public policy making and public affairs processes.
  • Experience in developing and using the public affairs toolbox.
  • Experience in developing partnerships with trade associations and other industry partners to push an agenda.
  • Formulating and implementing business development, government relations, and external affairs policies.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze key regulatory and policy issues with respect to the company's strategic goals and focus on those that advance (or could potentially inhibit) the company's competitive business interests.
  • Ability to understand and influence the digital maturity of governments and other bodies they interact with.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with internal business stakeholders.
  • A record of achievement and accomplishment.
  • Organized and a self-starter, comfortable working within a team located across the region.
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English and German.

Estimated Salary: €120,000 - €180,000 per year, depending on experience
