Hamburg, Hamburg, Deutschland Universität Hamburg Vollzeit

Research Associate Position in Climate Modeling

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to join our team at Universität Hamburg. The successful candidate will be part of the theoretical oceanography group, working under the supervision of Dr. Friederike Pollmann and Dr. Alexa Griesel as well as Prof. Dr. Carsten Eden.

Project Overview

The project L5 applies and assesses the effect of the energetic mixing closure IDEMIX in climate states that are very different from today's. The successful candidate will investigate an extreme future climate state without the Earth's major ice sheets, analyzing how the barotropic tidal current changes associated with ice sheet melt and sea level rise impact the internal tide generation, propagation, and dissipation.

Responsibilities

The Research Associate will be responsible for academic services in the project, including data analysis and the presentation and publication of scientific results. The successful candidate will also be a member of the project's research training group ENERGY, which connects the participating universities and research institutes and provides dedicated training courses, ample opportunity for (international) networking, and a mentoring program to support career development.

Requirements

A university degree in a relevant field, such as physical oceanography, meteorology, physics, or applied mathematics, is required. The successful candidate should have excellent English skills and enjoy working in an international and interdisciplinary team.

We Offer

  • Reliable remuneration based on wage agreements
  • Continuing education opportunities
  • University pensions
  • Attractive location
  • Flexible working hours
  • Work-life balance opportunities
