About the Role

PhD Student (f/m/d) for Analysis of AC/DC Power Systems

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join our team at Siemens Energy Global GmbH & Co. KG. As a PhD student, you will conduct research and development on advanced power generation and transmission systems.

Your Responsibilities
  • Conduct research and development of new applications and tools for electric power generation, transmission, and control systems
  • Develop mathematical models in RMS and EMT for various transmission and generation system components (HVDC, FACTS, Machines) using relevant simulation tools such as PSS/E, PowerFactory, and PSCAD
  • Design and develop automation and software tools to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of power system studies
  • Create innovative AI and ML-based applications and tools for the efficient planning and analyzing electric power systems and controllers
  • Actively collaborate with internal experts and research institutions to co-innovate and co-create new solutions for emerging challenges in power system generation and transmission
Requirements
  • Completed master's degree in electrical power engineering with excellent academic record and previous research experience
  • Strong theoretical and practical background within the fields of power systems and control engineering
  • Proficient in using one or more of the standard power system simulation programs (PSS/E, PowerFactory, PSCAD/EMTDC) and programming languages (Matlab, Python, Fortran)
  • Experienced in control theory, particularly in control algorithms for electric power systems and power electronics converters
  • Strong background in machine learning techniques, statistics, and probability
  • Good communication skills in business; fluent in English, German is a plus
