Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD Researcher to join our team at Siemens Energy, focusing on the analysis of AC/DC power systems. As a PhD Researcher, you will conduct research and development on advanced power generation and transmission systems, working closely with experienced power system consultants within an EU Horizon Project.

About the Role

As a PhD Researcher, you will be responsible for:

  • Conducting research and development of new applications and tools for electric power generation, transmission, and control systems
  • Developing mathematical models in RMS and EMT for various transmission and generation system components, including HVDC, FACTS, and Machines, using relevant simulation tools such as PSS/E, PowerFactory, and PSCAD
  • Designing and developing automation and software tools to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of power system studies
  • Creating innovative AI and ML-based applications and tools for the efficient planning and analyzing electric power systems and controllers
  • Collaborating with internal experts and research institutions to co-innovate and co-create new solutions for emerging challenges in power system generation and transmission

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A completed master's degree in electrical power engineering with an excellent academic record and previous research experience
  • A strong theoretical and practical background within the fields of power systems and control engineering
  • Proficiency in using one or more of the standard power system simulation programs, such as PSS/E, PowerFactory, and PSCAD/EMTDC, and programming languages, such as Matlab, Python, and Fortran
  • Experience in control theory, particularly in control algorithms for electric power systems and power electronics converters
  • A strong background in machine learning techniques, statistics, and probability
  • Good communication skills, with fluency in English, and German is a plus
