Geotechnical Research Associate

Within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, specifically at the Institute of Structural Engineering - Geotechnical Engineering (led by Prof. Dr.-Ing. O. Reul), we are offering the following position:
Research Assistant (m/f/d), EG 13 TV-H, temporary, full-time (currently 40 hours per week)
The role is initially limited to three years as part of the DFG project RE 3881/6-1, focusing on "Piled rafts under cyclic horizontal loading" in accordance with § 2 paragraph 1 WissZeitVG. There is an opportunity to pursue a PhD.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage in the aforementioned project, particularly: Conducting small-scale model tests, performing soil mechanical laboratory tests (including cyclic triaxial tests), and executing numerical simulations using the finite element method (FEM).
Qualifications:
- A Master's or Diploma degree in civil engineering with good or very good grades, to be obtained by the recruitment date at the latest.
- Strong knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles.
- Proficient in applying numerical methods in geotechnical engineering, especially FEM.
- Experience in conducting and analyzing soil mechanical laboratory tests.
- Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in German, both written and spoken.
- High motivation, ability to work independently, and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Familiarity with FEM software such as ABAQUS, NUMGEO, or Tochnog Professional, including the integration of UMATs.
- Understanding of soil behavior under cyclic loading.
- Knowledge of foundation behavior under cyclic loading.
- Experience in conducting and evaluating model tests.
