We are currently seeking a Research Assistant (m/f/d), EG 13 TV-H, temporary, full-time (currently 40 hours per week) within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, specifically at the Institute of Structural Engineering - Geotechnical Engineering (Prof. Dr.-Ing. O. Reul).
This position is part of the DFG project RE 3881/6-1 titled "Piled rafts under cyclic horizontal loading" and is initially limited to a duration of three years in accordance with § 2 paragraph 1 WissZeitVG. The opportunity to pursue a PhD is available.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage in the aforementioned project, focusing on:
- Conducting small-scale model experiments
- Performing soil mechanical laboratory tests, including cyclic triaxial tests
- Executing numerical simulations utilizing the finite element method (FEM)
Qualifications:
- A Master's or Diploma degree in civil engineering with a strong academic record, to be completed by the recruitment date.
- In-depth knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles.
- Proficiency in applying numerical methods in geotechnical contexts, particularly FEM.
- Experience in conducting and analyzing soil mechanical laboratory tests.
- Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.
Preferred Skills:
- Proficient in German, both written and spoken.
- High motivation, a self-directed work ethic, and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Familiarity with FEM software such as ABAQUS, NUMGEO, or Tochnog Professional, including UMAT integration.
- Understanding of soil behavior under cyclic loading conditions.
- Knowledge of foundation behavior under cyclic loading.
- Experience in executing and interpreting model tests.
