Position Overview
The research team led by Jan Dörr at the ECRC, Charité and Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine, is looking for a postdoctoral research associate specializing in molecular cancer biology.
This laboratory focuses on understanding the causes and implications of tumor heterogeneity and treatment resistance in pediatric cancers. Our interdisciplinary and international team consists of dedicated scientists and medical professionals. We benefit from advanced equipment and facilities at Charité and MDC, offering numerous opportunities for translational research in pediatric oncology. The primary working language is English.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be a recent PhD graduate or a postdoctoral researcher with a background in cancer biology, biochemistry, or molecular oncology, eager to explore fundamental questions regarding tumor heterogeneity and therapy resistance in both in vitro and in vivo settings. We particularly encourage applicants with robust experience in tumor biology, functional proteomics, and signal transduction.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with other research teams within the collaborative research center CRC1588: Decoding and Targeting Mechanisms of Neuroblastoma Evolution, which is supported by the German Research Foundation. Responsibilities include assessing the impact of genetic and phenotypic tumor heterogeneity on therapy resistance in neuroblastoma cell lines, patient-derived xenografts (PDX), and patient samples before and after treatment with various therapies, aiming to identify and evaluate new therapeutic vulnerabilities.
This role offers the opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research in a collaborative, well-funded environment, with access to shared facilities for sequencing, bioinformatics, imaging, metabolomics, flow cytometry, molecular pathology, and mouse genome engineering. The position also allows for interdisciplinary collaborations with CRC research groups, particularly the Mertins group at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine, as well as international partnerships.
Qualifications
- Recent PhD or postdoctoral experience in cancer biology, biochemistry, or molecular medicine.
- A curious, motivated, and independent mindset.
- A strong publication record and a desire to pursue an academic career.
- Trained in methods for analyzing cell lines through functional genomics (CRISPR-Cas9 or shRNA screenings), molecular biology techniques (PCR, FISH, cloning, immunoblotting, co-immunoprecipitation, proximity labeling, etc.), and molecular medicine (histopathology, flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy).
- Proficiency in transcriptomic and proteomic data analysis, with basic programming knowledge (preferably in R).
- Ability to work collaboratively within the laboratory and with national and international partners, effectively communicating scientific concepts and data in English.
