Position Overview
The research team led by Jan Dörr at the ECRC, affiliated with the Charité and the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine, is in search of a postdoctoral research associate specializing in molecular cancer biology.
Our laboratory focuses on exploring the origins and implications of tumor heterogeneity and treatment resistance in pediatric cancers. We are a diverse and international group of dedicated scientists and medical professionals. Our team benefits from extensive access to cutting-edge facilities at Charité and MDC, providing numerous opportunities for translational research in pediatric oncology. The primary language of communication within the team is English.
Candidate Profile
The ideal applicant is a recent PhD graduate or a postdoctoral researcher with a background in cancer biology, biochemistry, or molecular oncology, eager to investigate critical questions regarding tumor heterogeneity and therapy resistance in both in vitro and in vivo settings. We particularly encourage candidates with robust experience in tumor biology, functional proteomics, and signal transduction to apply.
The successful candidate will engage in research projects in close collaboration with other teams within the collaborative research center CRC1588: Decoding and Targeting Mechanisms of Neuroblastoma Evolution, funded by the German Research Foundation. The role involves assessing the influence of genetic and phenotypic tumor heterogeneity on therapy resistance using neuroblastoma cell lines, patient-derived xenografts (PDX), and patient samples before and after treatment with various therapies, aiming to identify and evaluate new therapeutic vulnerabilities.
The researcher will conduct innovative studies in a supportive, interactive, and well-funded environment, with access to shared resources for sequencing, bioinformatics, imaging, metabolomics, flow cytometry, molecular pathology, and mouse genome engineering. Opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations with CRC research groups, particularly the Mertins group at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine, as well as international partnerships, will be available.
Qualifications
- Recent PhD or postdoctoral experience in cancer biology, biochemistry, or molecular medicine.
- A curious, motivated, and independent approach to research.
- A strong publication record and a commitment to pursuing an academic career.
- Proficiency in methods for analyzing cell lines through functional genomics (CRISPR-Cas9 or shRNA screenings), molecular biology techniques (PCR, FISH, cloning, immunoblotting, co-immunoprecipitation, proximity labeling, etc.), and molecular medicine (histopathology, flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy).
- Experience in transcriptomic and proteomic data analysis, with basic programming skills (preferably in R).
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a laboratory setting and with international partners, and to communicate scientific concepts and findings in English.
