The Search, Shopping and Pricing (SSP) division is dedicated to creating solutions tailored for diverse customer groups, including service providers (airlines, alliances, and railway operators), distributors (travel agencies, online travel agencies, tour operators), and emerging intermediaries (meta-search). This sector is characterized by rapid innovation, driven by online competitors (Google/ITA, Kayak, Expedia) and evolving business models (NDC). The underlying platform is vast, encompassing extensive infrastructure that handles numerous transactions, vast data sets (350 million fares, petabyte-scale historical data), and complex software (23 million lines of code).

Purpose

The primary role of a Site Reliability Engineer is to ensure the effective delivery of comprehensive services to our clientele, adhering to established SLAs. This is achieved by enhancing, designing, and implementing services that automate application provisioning and manage the foundational infrastructure as a service, covering all layers from computing to storage, including networking.

The objective of a Site Reliability Engineer is to expedite the Application teams' capacity to reliably and consistently deploy applications by developing standardized automation processes that govern, build, and deploy managed services, integrated into loosely coupled toolchains, forming a unified continuous deployment pipeline for application development teams.

Your Main Responsibilities

Common accountabilities:

Maintain a highly available cloud-based application platform for Amadeus clients. Facilitate application deployments, construct new systems, and upgrade existing infrastructures. Create automation solutions for rapid deployment of instances from pre-defined applications or golden images. Develop and utilize monitoring tools to identify issues, resolve them, or escalate to development, ensuring SLA compliance. Build and oversee development and testing environments, aiding developers in troubleshooting application challenges. Contribute to the development of tools and processes that support the infrastructure. Utilize scripting to create necessary automation and tools as needed. Operate the platform in accordance with security and privacy protocols. Engage in continuous learning and exploration of new technologies with minimal supervision. Employ a variety of open-source technologies and tools effectively. Possess experience in systems and IT operations. Demonstrate comfort with frequent, incremental code testing and deployment. Maintain a strong focus on business outcomes. Exhibit a collaborative spirit, open communication, and cross-functional teamwork. Provide hands-on engineering, administration, and technical support. Troubleshoot issues across the entire technology stack - hardware, software, applications, and networks. Document current and future configuration processes and policies. Offer proactive thought leadership for innovative and efficient technology solutions. Drive continuous enhancement of service delivery solutions to clients (agility, stability, etc.). Engage in process reengineering and optimization. Collaborate with application owners and middleware organizations to define and enforce operational and non-functional requirements.

Specific accountabilities:

Strong grasp of Software Engineering methodologies and development cycles (Open-Source development), including Version Control systems (GIT and SubVersion) and Continuous Integration/testing methods (Jenkins). In-depth knowledge of Service-Oriented Architecture design patterns. Proficient understanding of Networking, including: Communication Protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, SSH, HTTP/S). Load balancing techniques, traffic routing, and caching for distributed applications, ensuring scalability. Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve system-level issues on large, busy networks. Expertise in deployment and infrastructure configuration management tools (such as Maven, Capistrano, Puppet, NPM), particularly Ansible. Excellent knowledge of Linux operating system administration (RHEL or SLES). Experience working within Linux environments. Familiarity with Linux Containers deployment technologies (Docker or LXC). Proficient in programming languages such as C, C++, or Java, as well as Shell, Perl, GO, or Python. Understanding of monitoring tools and concepts (Kibana, ElasticSearch), especially Grafana. Comprehensive understanding of Cloud concepts and Cloud computing ecosystems (Cloud Stack, OpenStack, AWS API, Azure, OpenShift/Kubernetes, etc.). Knowledge of Virtualization Technologies (such as EC2, Xen, KVM, OpenStack). Strong familiarity with relational databases (Oracle, MySQL, MariaDB) and NoSQL technologies (Hadoop, MongoDB, Couchbase) is advantageous. Awareness of security information and event management technologies. Exposure to Agile methodologies is a plus. Eagerness to learn new technologies consistently. Willingness to automate tasks and responsibilities. Sense of ownership regarding the platform. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Team-oriented with a focus on conflict resolution. Support Engineering. Qualification (Education, university, equivalent, etc.): University degree in Computer Sciences, Software Engineering, or equivalent work experience. Minimum 3-5 years in systems administration/Software Engineering/DevOps, networking in a large environment. Minimum 3 years' experience in application build and release engineering within SOA architectures.
