Embark on a transformative journey as a Senior Engineer specializing in Energy Management Systems (f/m/d) within our innovative business incubation unit. Our approach aims to revolutionize the path toward decarbonization through an internal start-up model.

Our Energy-as-a-Service team is focused on redefining energy consumption for our clients, particularly in smaller commercial facilities. We offer integrated sustainable solutions, including photovoltaic systems, energy storage, and enhancements in energy efficiency such as retrofitting lighting, heating, and cooling systems. Coupled with our exceptional financing model, we empower our clients to achieve energy cost reductions and decarbonization without requiring upfront investments.

As our internal start-up expands, initially targeting the USA with plans for global outreach, we seek an experienced Senior Engineer to bolster our expertise in modeling, simulation, optimization, and performance validation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement innovative IoT energy management systems for a network of small, distributed energy resources, focusing on power control, forecasting, and asset scheduling with backup capabilities.
  • Develop control systems and design modules for critical assets such as heating and cooling systems, solar PV, and batteries, while creating reliable performance tracking algorithms that ensure validation and integration with our software teams.
  • Optimize energy tariffs and facilitate access to energy markets through external partnerships, including demand charge optimization and demand response strategies.
  • Contribute significantly to the development of rapid, state-of-the-art energy system design processes for multi-site sustainability initiatives.
  • Embrace the exciting role of mentor and technical leader, advocating for emerging technologies in automation, engineering, usability, and robustness.
  • Oversee continuous integration and deployment pipelines, incorporating DevOps practices, application packaging, and infrastructure automation. Conduct laboratory testing and commissioning in pilot projects.
  • Lead all aspects of in-field energy management system performance and derive optimization strategies.
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or equivalent experience in electrical/energy engineering, mechanical engineering, distributed energy systems, building management systems, control theory, automation, signal processing, or related disciplines.
  • Several years of professional experience in real-time data processing, modeling, and control automation of systems, with expertise in energy system design and techno-economic analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to construct an energy management system, with extensive hands-on experience in the energy sector, including familiarity with relevant energy assets such as solar PV, batteries, electrical and thermal loads, heat pumps, and thermal energy storage in a microgrid context.
  • Proficiency in at least one relevant programming language or framework within the energy management domain, such as Python, Java, GO, or PLC programming languages.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of cloud and IoT technologies, as well as microservice architecture (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), combined with a proven ability to guide software teams, ensuring robust and validated software functionality.
  • Strong communication skills to bridge the gap between algorithm development and software development teams.
  • A passion for contributing to the energy transition and decarbonization efforts.
  • A curiosity for driving innovation and developing new business opportunities for Siemens.
  • Experience working in agile and international software development teams.
  • Willingness to undertake regular international business travel.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English; conversational German is a plus.
