In the contemporary landscape of technology, semiconductors serve as the fundamental components powering a myriad of devices—from the billions of transistors in cutting-edge processors to the micron-sized sensors monitoring environmental conditions.

Bosch stands at the forefront as a premier provider of MEMS sensors and power semiconductors, merging inventive design with advanced manufacturing techniques to forge the products of tomorrow.

A pivotal area in semiconductor innovation is laser processing. This technology enables the development of sophisticated functionalities and enhances productivity in targeted sensor applications. However, to fully harness its capabilities, it is essential to comprehend the impact of laser processing on the mechanical characteristics of semiconductor materials. For MEMS sensors, precisely managing these mechanical properties is crucial for the successful implementation of new laser techniques in sensor production. We are seeking a dedicated individual to contribute to our research and development efforts.

Innovate: Engage deeply with the interaction between lasers and semiconductors, exploring the resulting mechanical property changes, utilizing cutting-edge laser processing technology, and formulating novel methodologies and strategies. Assume Responsibility: Design, execute, and evaluate experiments and simulations, uncovering physical cause-and-effect relationships, and applying your insights to guide our internal pre-development towards innovative product and process designs. Collaborate: Become an integral part of our skilled and motivated team, working closely with corporate research and sensor process development within the mobility electronics sector, as well as collaborating with esteemed external research partners globally.

Qualifications

Education: A distinguished Master’s degree in physics, engineering, natural sciences, or a related field. Experience and Knowledge: A solid foundation in fundamental and material physics along with relevant characterization techniques. Familiarity with laser material processing, particularly surface processing (such as ablation and drilling), and ultrashort-pulsed lasers is advantageous. Experience in scientific research, data analysis, interpretation, and presentation, as well as programming (Python, Matlab) and simulation capabilities. Work Style: Structured, analytical, conscientious, results-oriented, and collaborative. Language Proficiency: Fluent in both spoken and written English and German.

The final assignment of the dissertation topic will be coordinated through your university as the primary contact for your dissertation.
