Position Overview

In the realm of Advanced Mechanical Engineering, we are dedicated to crafting and evaluating pioneering solutions that shape the future of our industry. In this position, you will contribute to advancements in aircraft component engineering, specifically focusing on the Low-Pressure Turbine (LPT) rotor disk and blades for the RISE Open Fan technology demonstrator engine initiative. This role is centered around hardware design and plays a crucial part in the evolution of our next generation of aircraft. The position offers the flexibility of a fully remote work arrangement or an optional hybrid schedule, along with the possibility of part-time employment.

Key Responsibilities
  • As part of GE Renewable Energy's RISE initiative, develop mechanical designs for assigned components that meet program and internal design specifications, particularly in the context of the Open Fan low-pressure turbine technology maturation and engine demonstration efforts (both ground and flight testing).
  • Collaborate effectively with diverse global teams across various disciplines, including thermal design, aerodynamic design, and systems engineering.
  • Identify and communicate design risks to relevant stakeholders to facilitate informed decision-making as a cohesive team.
  • Devise innovative solutions that enhance the assigned components and overall module to achieve broad design objectives.
  • Lead and finalize design reviews, drawing releases, quality requirements, assembly analyses, and other related activities.
  • Propose areas where technological advancements are necessary and recommend strategies/programs to achieve those advancements.
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in an engineering discipline with substantial industrial experience in mechanical design.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering complex programs and the ability to collaborate within cross-functional global teams in multicultural settings.
  • Proven capability to advance the state of technology and generate innovative solutions.
  • Fluency in English.
Preferred Attributes
  • Extensive experience in the aerospace industry, particularly in mechanical design for components such as rotors, structures, or airfoil components.
  • Experience with finite element modeling and iteration, preferably using Ansys.
  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D modeling of mechanical components, preferably with NX/Teamcenter.
  • A collaborative approach that values and enhances team diversity.
  • Experience in resolving mechanical design challenges.
  • Background in mechanical design for aerospace propulsion systems, including rotors, structures, or airfoil components.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership abilities.
  • Established skills in self-prioritization.
  • A passion for technical excellence and technological advancement.
  • Proficiency in the German language.
