Your Role

As a Design Engineer, you will engage in a variety of technical engineering functions, primarily focusing on CAD design while also participating in assembly and integration tasks. This is a unique opportunity to collaborate with a motivated team dedicated to delivering exceptional results in the space industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop innovative design solutions to enhance existing products and influence new product development through comprehensive, data-driven analysis.
  • Create detailed 3D CAD models, part and assembly drawings, and comprehensive parts lists utilizing SolidWorks.
  • Provide technical expertise on assigned projects, ensuring alignment with technical and scheduling goals.
  • Enhance the working environment of the Design team and foster inter-team collaboration by supporting the Lead Design Engineer.
  • Prepare thorough technical reports and actively participate in design discussions and reviews.
  • Compile detailed Bill of Materials (BOM) and collaborate with the Supply Chain Manager to define procurement needs, ensuring timely delivery of components.
  • Take full ownership of design projects and engage with both internal and external partners to optimize designs and interfaces.
  • Coordinate with the Analysis team to provide necessary inputs for design validation through Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Work closely with the Manufacturing, Assembly, Integration, and Test (MAIT) team to provide clear work instructions and support manufacturing processes.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing design documentation with appropriate configuration control using SolidWorks PDM.
Qualifications
  • A degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a design engineering role within the aerospace or space sector.
  • Proficient in English (both spoken and written); knowledge of German is a plus.
  • Eligibility to work in the EU without restrictions.
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex designs and demonstrate initiative.
  • Experience in managing tight deadlines and expectations within projects.
  • Familiarity with mechanical design of structures, including composite materials, preferably using SolidWorks.
  • Experience in designing space systems such as Deployable Structures and Hold Down and Release Mechanisms is highly desirable.
  • Analytical mindset with a solution-oriented approach, strong teamwork, and communication skills.
  • In-depth understanding of technical drawing and DIN standards.
  • Exceptional technical reporting capabilities.
  • Ability to identify design optimization opportunities and propose innovative solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of metal manufacturing processes and design-for-manufacture principles.

Desirable Attributes

Familiarity with space projects and knowledge of ESA and ECSS standards will be advantageous.
