Strategic Communications Officer

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Communications and Assistant Advancement Officer to join our team. This is a key leadership position that will play a critical role in shaping the College's marketing and communications strategies, as well as advancing the College's mission and goals.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement comprehensive marketing and communications plans to promote the College's programs and services, and to enhance the College's image and reputation.
- Oversee the College's communications office, including public relations, strategic recruitment support, advertising, publications, graphic design, social media, and photography/videography.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including the media, community leaders, and College constituents.
- Manage and administer the department budget in a cost-effective and fiscally-responsible manner.
- Provide leadership in the development and implementation of an active internal communication plan for employees and students.
- Represent the College at off-campus events, and serve as a liaison to the Virginia Community College System Public Relations and Marketing office.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in marketing and communications, with at least 2 years of experience in a supervisory role.
- Strong understanding of marketing and branding concepts, as well as experience in project planning, development, and implementation.
- Excellent communication, written, and verbal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to make data-driven decisions and to evaluate return on investments.
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field.
- Previous experience working in a higher education environment.
The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment, with multiple deadlines and priorities. The position will also require frequent travel to off-campus events and meetings.
