Research Scientist for the MOMOBIO-2 Initiative
vor 3 Monaten
Position Title: Research Scientist for the MOMOBIO-2 Initiative
Institution: Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences, Department of Biology, Institute of Plant Science and Microbiology
Contract Type: Fixed-term contract in accordance with academic labor regulations.
Work Schedule: Part-time, 65% of standard work hours per week.
Responsibilities:
The role involves contributing to academic services within the MOMOBIO-2 project. Research associates are encouraged to engage in independent research and pursue further academic qualifications.
The MOMOBIO-2 project focuses on the impact of environmental stressors on microbial diversity and resistance mechanisms, particularly in urban settings. The project aims to develop comprehensive omic-based datasets and models to monitor and predict changes in microbial communities along wastewater streams and urban water bodies.
The successful candidate will utilize a process-based ecological modeling approach to represent the functional diversity of microbial communities. This includes simulating the effects of various environmental factors on community composition and predicting the prevalence of potential pathogens relevant to human health.
The modeling will be based on population dynamics of diverse microbial functional types, parameterized with data on reaction rates, and validated against observational data from other project components. Key focuses will include evolving resistomes, xenobiotic gene loads, and virulence factors, with an emphasis on the spread of antibiotic resistance along the flowpath toward the Elbe river.
Candidate Profile:
A university degree in a relevant field such as Ecology, Biology, or Microbiology is required. The ideal candidate will possess advanced knowledge and experience in at least two of the following areas: Ecology, biogeochemistry, soil science, and microbiology. Proven skills in numerical modeling and scientific writing are essential. Additional qualities include teamwork, motivation, independent thinking, and familiarity with Unix-like operating systems. Proficiency in both oral and written English is necessary.
What We Offer:
- Competitive remuneration based on wage agreements
