The Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research (Leibniz-IZW) is dedicated to advancing our understanding of wildlife adaptability in the face of global environmental changes. Our research emphasizes the diversity of animal lifestyles, disease dynamics, and evolutionary adaptation mechanisms, focusing on both natural and human-impacted ecosystems.
We are currently seeking a qualified individual for the role of Postdoctoral Researcher in Ecological Resilience. This position is part of a significant project aimed at assessing the demographic resilience of wildlife populations, specifically funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
The successful candidate will engage in innovative research utilizing a newly developed methodology to evaluate the demographic resilience of wildlife populations in response to environmental fluctuations. This research will leverage extensive long-term datasets from free-ranging spotted hyena populations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze the contributions of vital rate variations and population structure to demographic resilience.
- Utilize population dynamics models implemented in R and specialized R packages developed for this project.
- Collaborate with existing PhD candidates working on related research aspects.
Qualifications:
- PhD in population ecology, demography, biostatistics, or related fields.
- Proficient in statistical analysis and programming in R.
- Strong background in population ecology, particularly in matrix models.
- Proven track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
- Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
