At Mercedes-Benz AG, we are at the forefront of autonomous driving technology. Our central Drive Controller integrates diverse sensor data to ensure precise control of vehicles in both longitudinal and lateral movements.

Map data plays a crucial role in enabling autonomous driving and enhancing driver assistance features. It serves as an additional sensor, providing a comprehensive view of the road ahead, which traditional sensors like radar, lidar, and cameras cannot fully capture. This map data is maintained on an external backend, updated using sensor information from our vehicle fleet and real-time traffic data.

Key Responsibilities

As an intern, you will encounter several exciting challenges, including:

  • Conducting feasibility studies on utilizing Open Street Map (OSM) data as reference maps.
  • Gaining familiarity with the OSM format.
  • Transforming OSM data into formats suitable for further analysis.
  • Visualizing OSM data using QGIS tools.
  • Documenting processes and facilitating knowledge transfer.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Geoinformatics, Electrical Engineering, Technical Cybernetics, Control Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Proficient written and spoken skills in both German and English.
  • Programming experience, particularly in Python.
  • Strong skills in MS Office applications.
  • A collaborative spirit and commitment to teamwork.
  • An analytical mindset with a strategic approach to problem-solving.
  • Preferably, familiarity with QGIS or geo-information systems.
