Monetary and Economic Statistics Economist-Statistician

Your Role
As an Economist-Statistician, your responsibilities will include: assisting in the transition to a new IT framework for managing data and processes involved in the production and dissemination of statistics; engaging in the routine quality assurance, compilation, and distribution of macroeconomic statistics. Furthermore, as an Economist-Statistician in the Monetary Statistics Section, you will:develop, execute, and evaluate procedures related to the quality assurance, compilation, and dissemination of statistics in accordance with the revised Regulation on investment fund statistics ECB 2024/1988. Alternatively, as an Economist-Statistician in the Economic Statistics Section, you will: implement and/or refine seasonal adjustment techniques for price, cost, and/or other general economic statistics. These roles present outstanding opportunities to create and enhance statistical indicators that inform policymaking within a prominent central bank. You will collaborate within a diverse team dedicated to continuous innovation aimed at positively influencing the lives of European citizens.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
Essential requirements include: a master's degree or equivalent in statistics, finance, economics, mathematics, or a related discipline; at least three years of experience in regular statistical production, database management, time series analysis, and/or data quality evaluation; familiarity with statistical standards applied in the compilation of macroeconomic statistics (such as the European System of Accounts) or in the exchange of statistical data and metadata (like the Statistical Data and Metadata eXchange initiative); advanced programming capabilities in Python and/or R; a proficient (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official EU language. Essential for the position in the Economic Statistics Section: experience with seasonal adjustment methods and their practical application to statistical time series. Desirable for both roles: experience in testing IT applications and tools for data management, compilation, and dissemination. You are expected to work collaboratively with others, pursue team objectives, and learn from diverse perspectives. You should communicate any need for change clearly, proposing alternative solutions. You will analyze complex information effectively and evaluate various viewpoints to reach conclusions. You are attuned to stakeholder needs and motivated to contribute to the ECB's mission, serving the citizens of the EU as part of a public institution while collaborating with colleagues from across Europe.
