In collaboration with the Chair of Laser Technology at RWTH LLT, the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT, a leading institution in contract research and development in laser technology, offers an opportunity to conduct a thesis in the field of Joining of Plastics. The integration of metal and plastic in hybrid components provides a combination of metal's strength and rigidity with the lightweight properties of plastic, which is increasingly significant in modern lightweight construction.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and evaluate innovative structuring techniques
  • Collaborate with the MSE at RWTH Aachen University
  • Modify the structural design of the metal component based on established models
  • Conduct simulations to assess the mechanical strength of the composite materials
  • Perform practical experiments at the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology (ILT)
  • Initial exploratory studies have already been conducted
  • The scope of your work can be tailored to align with your interests

Qualifications

  • Enrollment in mechanical engineering, engineering sciences, or physics
  • A keen interest in addressing technical challenges in applied research
  • Ability to work independently, responsibly, and in an organized manner
  • High motivation and enthusiasm for the subject matter
  • Prior experience with simulations and laser systems is advantageous but not mandatory
