Job Opportunity: Media Tightness Testing for Hybrid Laser Welding

In collaboration with the Chair of Laser Technology at RWTH Aachen University, the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology offers a thesis opportunity on the development and implementation of media tightness tests on laser-welded hybrid joints made of metal and plastic.

Hybrid components combining metal and plastic are increasingly used in lightweight construction applications. These components are joined by laser in a two-stage process to seal electronic housings, requiring a media-tight bond between metal and plastic.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and construct a small housing for clamping test specimens
  • Conduct a series of tests with different materials and laser parameters, evaluating samples for media density
  • Develop a customized approach to the project, with flexibility to adapt to your interests

Requirements:

  • Currently studying mechanical engineering, engineering sciences, or physics in a bachelor or master program
  • Interest in technical problems in application-oriented research
  • Responsible, independent, and structured work style, with high motivation
  • Initial experience in design and laser systems is desirable, but not required
