Access and Safety Officer

Malteser International is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Access and Safety Officer to join our team in Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria.
About the Role:The Access and Safety Officer will support the Country Coordinator and Senior Management Team in ensuring the safety and security of all Malteser International staff, assets, and programs within the country. This will involve conducting comprehensive operational context and risk analysis, designing and implementing risk management policies and procedures, and ensuring compliance and oversight.
Key Responsibilities:- Security Management: Develop and revise security documents, including risk analyses, local safety and security rules, contingency and relocation plans, and country security and safety management plans.
- Context Analysis: Conduct regular qualitative follow-up of the political, military, and security context in the country.
- Access: Support and represent the Country Coordinator in negotiations to obtain access to civilian and/or military authorities and the UN System.
- Training and Capacity Building: Develop a training and capacity building plan on safety and security and ensure all staff and security focal points have undertaken essential training.
- Reporting and Information Management: Ensure regular security and incident reports are completed and uploaded on relevant share points.
- Human Resources: Supervise and liaise daily with contracted facilities guards at the Country Office in Maiduguri to ensure they are trained and aware of Malteser International's SOPs.
- Representation and Coordination: Attend security coordination and bilateral meetings and update the Country Coordinator on current security issues.
- A master's degree in a field related to humanitarian work or risk management, with a minimum of four years of demonstrative experience in safety and security with INGOs in Nigeria.
- Strong assessment, evaluation, reporting, and analysis skills, strategic planning skills with proven technical expertise in safety and security management.
- Technical competency and training experience in field-based communication systems, with sound knowledge of humanitarian principles of impartiality and neutrality.
- Existing networks with influential actors in the Northwest, Northeast, and South-South states of Nigeria.
- IT literate, with experience in incident reporting, incident mapping, intelligence collation and analysis functions, and compilation of security reports and assessments.
- Proven fluency in written and spoken English, with a proven understanding of local languages like Hausa and Kanuri.
- Start Date: August 2024
- Duty Station: Maiduguri, Borno State (With frequent travels to field locations on a need basis)
- Duration of contract: Up till December with the possibility of renewal
- Salary expectation: Salary according to qualification and experience, insurance package.
