Senior IT Systems Engineer

About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior IT Systems Engineer to join our Core Infrastructure Services team at EMBL. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and administering enterprise directory, identity and access management, monitoring/alerting systems, and corporate messaging (Email). You will also manage high-end data storage, backup and archiving infrastructure, coordinate and oversee development projects with the WebDev Team, and track and document support events and infrastructure development to ensure excellent service quality and end user satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and administer enterprise directory, identity and access management
- Design and administer monitoring/alerting systems
- Manage corporate messaging (Email)
- Manage high-end data storage, backup and archiving infrastructure
- Coordinate and oversee development projects with the WebDev Team
- Track and document support events and infrastructure development
Requirements
- A degree in computer science or equivalent
- At least 5 years professional experience in managing (integration, automation and monitoring) a medium to large-sized heterogeneous IT environment
- Experience in using technologies such as NetApp (NFS/SMB), IBM TSM, MySQL, Cisco ESA, LDAP (OpenLDAP/FreeIPA/389 DS), Zabbix, FreeRADIUS, Ansible, VMware
- Familiarity with protocols like DNS, DHCP, SMTP, IMAP, SQL, AAI (LDAP, RADIUS, SSO)
- Solid experience in Linux system administration
- Advanced Perl/Python/Shell scripting skills
- Basic knowledge of networking and IT security
- A service-oriented attitude, good communication skills and excellent knowledge of English
What We Offer
- Contract duration: 3 years (renewable up to 9 years)
- Grading: 6-8; depending on qualifications and experience (monthly salary starting from 4.4k€ after tax, plus other paid benefits)
