About the Role

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to join EMBL's IT team as a Senior IT Systems Engineer - Core Infrastructure Services. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and administering enterprise directory, identity and access management, monitoring/alerting systems, and corporate messaging.

Main Responsibilities

  • Design and administer enterprise directory, identity and access management systems to ensure secure and efficient access to EMBL's IT resources.
  • Develop and implement monitoring and alerting systems to proactively identify and resolve IT issues.
  • Manage corporate messaging systems to ensure reliable and secure communication.
  • Co-manage high-end data storage, backup, and archiving infrastructure to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Coordinate and oversee development projects with the WebDev Team to deliver high-quality IT solutions.
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies to improve IT infrastructure and services.
  • Track and document support events and infrastructure development to ensure excellent service quality and end-user satisfaction.
  • Continuously improve IT infrastructure and support processes based on EMBL user and stakeholder needs.

Requirements

  • A degree in computer science or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in managing medium to large-sized heterogeneous IT environments.
  • Experience with technologies such as NetApp, IBM TSM, MySQL, Cisco ESA, LDAP, Zabbix, FreeRADIUS, Ansible, and VMware.
  • Familiarity with protocols like DNS, DHCP, SMTP, IMAP, SQL, and AAI.
  • Solid experience in Linux system administration.
  • Advanced Perl/Python/Shell scripting skills.
  • Basic knowledge of networking and IT security.
  • A service-oriented attitude, good communication skills, and excellent knowledge of English.
