Master's Thesis Opportunity in Energy Simulation

vor 3 Wochen

Jülich, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Deutschland Forschungszentrum Jülich Vollzeit
Position Overview:

The construction industry holds substantial potential for energy conservation and achieving the climate and energy targets established by Germany and the EU. By utilizing building simulation frameworks, we can assess energy usage during operation from multiple viewpoints. The simulations are performed using a sophisticated toolchain that generates Modelica building models automatically, based on straightforward room descriptions, campus blueprints, and empirical data. The primary objective is to evaluate the discrepancies between actual and optimal energy-efficient user practices, leveraging existing measurement data. This analysis will help identify user behavior inefficiencies and enhance user awareness.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform simulations and analyze deviations in energy consumption using existing measurement data.
  • Examine the discrepancies between projected and actual energy usage in buildings.
  • Detect inefficiencies in user practices and offer insights for increased awareness.
  • Employ Python and Dymola for analysis and simulation tasks.
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, computer science, or related disciplines.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and Modelica.
  • Genuine interest in energy engineering and building simulations.
  • Experience in modeling or controlling technical systems is advantageous.
  • Excellent analytical abilities and capacity to work autonomously.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new methodologies.
  • Fluency in English is essential.
What We Offer:

We provide a unique opportunity to engage with pressing societal challenges and contribute to meaningful change. Our support includes:
  • Collaborative efforts with passionate scientists from various disciplines.
  • Interdisciplinary projects that integrate physics, mathematics, computer science, and engineering.
  • Guidance from seasoned professionals.
