Your Role:

The construction industry presents significant opportunities for energy conservation and achieving the climate and energy consumption objectives set by Germany and the EU. Utilizing building simulation models, we can analyze energy consumption during operation from various perspectives. This project will leverage a toolchain that automatically generates Modelica models based on an intuitive language for room descriptions developed at our institute, along with campus building plans and measurement data. The focus will be on simulating energy consumption while considering various factors that are increasingly relevant in modern buildings. This research aims to assess, using existing measurement data, how actual user behavior on campus diverges from ideal simulated scenarios. The discrepancies between estimated energy consumption during the planning phase and actual consumption during operation are common across many buildings. This phenomenon will be explored further to identify inefficiencies in user behavior and to foster awareness among users. The tools for this research include Python for developing analysis tools and the simulation software Dymola for modeling and simulating Modelica building models.

Your specific tasks include:

Analyzing the differences between actual and ideal energy-efficient user behavior using existing measurement data
Investigating the common issue of discrepancies between estimated and actual energy consumption in buildings
Identifying inefficiencies in user behavior and creating a foundation for user awareness
Utilizing Python for analysis tool implementation and Dymola for simulation and modeling of Modelica building models

Your Qualifications:

Master's studies in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, process engineering, informatics, mathematics, or a related field
Proficiency in a programming language, preferably Python and Modelica
Interest in energy engineering and building simulation topics
Knowledge in modeling or control of technical systems is advantageous
Ability to work independently with strong analytical skills
Willingness to learn new methods
Reliable and conscientious work style
Proficiency in English (spoken and written)
