PhD Student in Epidemiology of Cardiometabolic Disease

About the Position

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join our team in the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at the Universitätsklinikum Freiburg. The successful candidate will work on a project focused on the epidemiology of cardiometabolic disease, using large population-based cohorts and medical imaging data.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct statistical analyses of population-based imaging data, with a focus on cardiometabolic phenotypes
  • Identify relevant hypotheses and research questions
  • Write scientific manuscripts for publication in international, peer-reviewed journals
  • Collaborate and communicate with an inter-disciplinary team (physicians/clinicians, epidemiologists, computer scientists, statisticians)
  • Support the supervision of projects for research interns and MD students
Requirements
  • Excellent Master's degree or comparable qualification in epidemiology, (bio-)statistics, data science, medicine/public health with strong quantitative focus, or comparable discipline
  • Excellent knowledge of basic statistical methods (e.g. descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, regression modeling)
  • Very good command of at least one statistical computing software, preferably R
  • Very good command of English language (written and spoken)
  • First experience with the analysis of an epidemiological data set

Working Conditions

The position is initially limited to 3 years, with the earliest possible start date. Compensation is according to tariff TV-L 13 and 65% of the regular weekly working time. The workplace is located at the Universitätsklinikum Freiburg, Campus Freiburg.
