Electrical Power Distribution Compliance Engineer

Position Overview
We are looking for a dedicated Electrical Power Distribution Compliance Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will engage with aviation regulatory bodies such as EASA and FAA to ensure that our electrical power distribution systems comply with all necessary certification standards. Your expertise will be crucial in evaluating design data, conducting tests, and analyzing documentation to facilitate the certification of our Power Distribution System, ensuring its seamless integration with the aircraft's electrical, mechanical, thermal, and logical systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with fellow Power Distribution System Engineers to oversee the design and lifecycle data of high voltage and low voltage power distribution components, including power centers, circuit breaker panels, and emergency battery systems.
- Serve as a Compliance Verification Engineer within the Design Organization Approval, executing compliance verification tasks as outlined in Volocopter's CVE framework.
- Act as the primary liaison for the Power Distribution System team with EASA and other regulatory agencies, coordinating the resolution of action items related to design and documentation.
- Represent the Power Distribution System team in relevant industry working groups, such as EUROCAE's WGs 112 SG-1 and 116 SG-1, focusing on aviation electrical power distribution certification.
- Review internal and supplier design documentation, testing, and analysis reports to ensure compliance with certification requirements for the Aircraft's Power Distribution System.
- Propose updates to the Electric Propulsion System Certification Plan concerning detailed certification requirements and means of compliance.
- Assess potential non-compliance issues and alternative compliance methods with certification authorities.
- Work closely with design engineers to ensure that all Power Distribution System design and development activities adhere to certification standards.
- Evaluate technical documentation from suppliers and partners for compliance, addressing any non-compliance issues as necessary.
- Collaborate with testing and verification teams to review test plans and setups, ensuring successful compliance demonstration of the electrical power distribution system.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Comprehensive understanding of SC-VTOL compliance for electrical power systems and components.
- In-depth knowledge of EASA's CS25 requirements and applicable AMCs, with the ability to evaluate compliance in currently certified aircraft.
- Familiarity with aerospace standards and regulations, including SC-VTOL, ARP-4754, DO-254, DO-178, and DO-160, and their impact on system component development.
- Proficient in reviewing engineering documents for compliance demonstration.
- Strong understanding of failure modes associated with power distribution systems.
- Proficient in English communication.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active participation in EUROCAE's Working groups WG-112 SG-1 and WG-116 SG-1.
- Familiarity with IEC standards relevant to EASA's certification requirements for electrical power distribution safety.
- Established connections within the aviation community regarding certification challenges for high voltage systems.
- In-depth knowledge of aviation electrical components and their functionalities.
- Understanding of electrical monitoring systems and methodologies.
- Experience with emerging technologies in aerospace electrical distribution.
- Basic knowledge of communication buses and their integration within electrical systems.
