Mechanical Design Engineer for Power Electronics Converters

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at Schneider Electric GmbH. As a key member of our cross-functional team, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative and reliable power electronics converter solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop conceptual and detailed designs for power converters, indoor and outdoor cabinets, containers, and other mechanical components.
  • Prepare innovative designs from specifications and create drawings and assembly details for flexible or solid busbars, cooling units, and other mechanical equipment.
  • Sizing, calculation, and specification of mechanical equipment, including pumps, heating, compressors, fans, auxiliary systems, and other components.
  • Provide practical engineering solutions to stack design, troubleshooting, and identifying issues affecting cost and reliability.
  • Conduct detailed thermal, structural, and vibration analyses using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software to ensure designs meet product performance, reliability, and safety requirements.
  • Work closely with electrical and software engineers to ensure seamless integration of mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
  • Prepare Bill of Materials (BoM) for all components and track updates.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing teams to ensure cost-effective and manufacturable designs.
  • Prepare design reports, drawings, and specifications.
  • Write test specifications for mechanical tests based on industry standards.

Requirements
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (MSc or PhD).
  • Several years of successful working experience in electromechanical design.
  • Proficiency in using 3D CAD software to design and optimize mechanical components and systems.
  • Previous design, development, and integration experience in power electronics converters and surrounding system components.
  • Strong understanding of thermal, vibration, and EMC management.
  • Good knowledge of material costs and delivery time.
  • Good knowledge of industrial standards and regulations for mechanical design of power converters.
