We are seeking a highly skilled Scientist for Marine Fauna Biodiversity Analysis Based on Environmental DNA to join our team at the Alfred-Wegener-Institut (AWI) - Helmholtz Zentrum für Polar- und Meeresforschung.
Key Responsibilities- Plan, organize, and execute research cruises to collect marine fauna samples for environmental DNA analysis.
- Develop and implement molecular genetic lab work protocols for eDNA sample processing, including DNA extraction and sequencing.
- Analyze sequence data to identify marine vertebrate and invertebrate species and examine temporal and spatial patterns of biodiversity.
- Coordinate eDNA samples and prepare reports and publications on research findings.
- Present research results at workshops and conferences.
- Master's degree in natural sciences or related disciplines.
- Experience in analyzing marine fauna using molecular genetic methods, with a focus on environmental DNA.
- Expertise in planning, organizing, and executing research cruises and water sampling for eDNA analysis.
- Knowledge of eDNA sample processing, sequence data analysis, and report preparation.
- Lab work experience with library preparation for sequencing.
- Experience in preparing reports and publications in environmental DNA research.
- Taxonomic understanding of marine fauna, with a focus on the North Sea.
