Research Associate in Chromatin Structural Biology

We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher to contribute to an innovative research initiative centered on the structural and functional analysis of chromatin within archaea. This project is dedicated to exploring the evolutionary journey of histone tails from an ancestral archaeal form to their roles in eukaryotic systems, focusing on the significance of these tails in proto-eukaryotic chromatin.
The successful candidate will engage in a variety of scientific tasks, including but not limited to biochemistry, biophysics, and structural biology. Responsibilities will encompass the integration of histones lacking tails with those from eukaryotic or Asgard origins for both in vitro and in vivo investigations, alongside conducting detailed molecular structural and functional assessments.
This role necessitates collaboration with esteemed colleagues, fostering regular scientific dialogue and exchange of ideas. The candidate will also participate in advanced techniques such as cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) for single particle analysis of nucleosomes, focused ion beam milling of archaeal cells, cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET), and subtomogram averaging of chromatin structures.
Essential Qualifications- PhD in structural biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a closely related field (or nearing completion)
- Demonstrated experience in cryo-EM/cryo-ET data acquisition and processing
- Strong background in biochemistry, including protein expression and purification, as well as DNA-protein complex analysis
- Proficiency in command line operations
- A genuine enthusiasm for the research focus, coupled with high motivation and dedication
- Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within an international research team
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with fluency in English
- Experience in microbiology and working with anaerobic microorganisms
- Basic programming knowledge
- Familiarity with high-performance computing environments
