Senior Risk Officer, Financial Institutions-Credit Risk Management Sub Saharan Africa

About the Role
Finance in Motion is seeking a highly skilled Senior Risk Officer to join our team in Sub-Saharan Africa. As a key member of our Financial Institutions-Credit Risk Management team, you will be responsible for performing comprehensive risk analysis and credit risk underwriting activities for current and potential investment opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough risk assessments of financial institutions, including credit, market, and liquidity risk analysis.
- Lead the credit risk underwriting process for proposed transactions, including on-site and off-site due diligence.
- Review and ensure compliance with the company's risk tolerance and prudent standards for loan agreements and other legal documents.
- Monitor outstanding debt investments in financial institutions, identifying potential risks and proposing mitigation strategies.
- Develop and maintain the internal credit rating process, ensuring accurate and timely ratings for the investment portfolio.
- Stay up-to-date on market, industry, regulatory, and macroeconomic developments in assigned countries.
- Collaborate closely with Investment Management and other departments to ensure effective risk management.
- Communicate risk-related information to key stakeholders, both internal and external.
- Provide guidance and coaching to junior staff members to enhance their knowledge and skills.
Requirements:
- Master's degree in Economics, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
- Proven experience in assessing risks of financial institutions, gained from international development banks, private banks, or financial sector regulators.
- Familiarity with the financial sector and banking regulatory framework of emerging/frontier market countries.
- Strong understanding of core macroeconomic processes and indicators.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Effective interpersonal skills to interact confidently with colleagues and external parties.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work, meet deadlines, and oversee projects.
- Pro-active, creative, self-motivating attitude.
- Willingness to travel to countries of Finance in Motion's operations in SSA countries as necessary.
