Senior Credit Risk Manager for Financial Institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa

Since its inception in 2009, Finance in Motion has successfully mobilized over EUR 5.4 billion towards these objectives across various regions, including Southeast Europe, the Caucasus, Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa, and sub-Saharan Africa. Beyond investment activities, the funds also extend technical assistance to support investees, promote responsible finance, and enhance impact in the regions served.

Senior Risk Officer, Financial Institutions - Credit Risk Management Sub-Saharan Africa (m/f/d)
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead comprehensive risk assessments (credit, market, and liquidity) for existing and prospective investment opportunities across diverse markets.
- Act as the Risk Transaction Leader for proposed deals, executing credit risk underwriting activities, including both on-site and off-site due diligence for potential investments.
- Conduct thorough reviews of loan agreements and other legal documents, ensuring compliance with the company's and Funds' risk appetite and prudent standards, adhering to LMA documentation standards.
- Regularly monitor outstanding debt investments in financial institutions, proactively identifying warning signs and recommending credit mitigation strategies.
- Maintain the integrity of the internal credit rating process and conduct ongoing surveillance of the investment portfolio.
- Stay informed on significant market, industry, regulatory, and macroeconomic developments in assigned operational countries.
- Foster close collaboration and coordination with Investment Management and other departments within the organization.
- Prepare and present clear and comprehensive risk-related communications to key stakeholders, both internal and external.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior staff members to enhance their knowledge and skills.
What We Expect:
- A degree in Economics, Business Administration, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated professional experience in evaluating risks associated with financial institutions (banks, leasing, and microfinance organizations), acquired from international development banks, private banks, regional financing companies, rating agencies, consulting firms, or financial sector regulators.
- Familiarity with the financial sector and banking regulatory frameworks of emerging and frontier market countries. Experience in East African and/or West African markets, along with an understanding of their political and cultural contexts, is advantageous.
- Comprehension of core macroeconomic processes and indicators.
- A strong team player capable of working independently, with integrity and minimal supervision.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in French is a plus.
- Effective interpersonal skills to engage confidently and clearly with various corporate levels and external stakeholders.
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage projects effectively.
- A proactive, innovative, and self-motivated approach.
- Willingness and capability to travel to countries where Finance in Motion operates as necessary.
