City Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced City Head to lead our growth and success in top cities in Germany. As a key member of our team, you will shape and drive city-specific strategies to deliver an unparalleled end-to-end customer and partner experience, aligned with Lieferando Germany goals. Your primary focus will be on expanding our footprint in these major cities, working across departments and leading a 'city squad' of individual SMEs. Supported by the global JET matrix organisation at the national and global levels, you will focus on both strategy and execution. Your key responsibilities will include building and delivering an ambitious roadmap of initiatives, fostering continuous innovation, and challenging the status quo to achieve impactful results.
We are looking for someone with a background in consulting, balancing high-level strategic thinking with data-driven, impact-focused decision making. You will have a proven track record of successful project delivery in complex urban environments, with a strong preference for candidates with consulting backgrounds, and/or experience in retail and / or ecommerce and / or consumer goods and services. You will report directly to the Country Managing Director, playing a crucial role in shaping the future of food and grocery delivery in Germany's most dynamic cities.
Key responsibilities- Local Strategy Development: Develop and own the strategic vision for your city, maximising market penetration, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency.
- Strategic, commercial and operational management: Oversee day-to-day business management and operations, executing strategies with solutions that are specific, granular - where appropriate, scalable and repeatable. Embrace continuous improvement to create micro improvements, and influence systematic changes across the city (people and processes).
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including restaurant partners, delivery personnel, local authorities, and customers.
- Proactive performance management and reporting.
- Track and analyse KPIs and SLAs to measure the success of initiatives and identify areas for improvement.
- Develop and manage budgets, steer financial performance.
- Prepare and present reports on project status, performance metrics, and strategic initiatives to senior management and stakeholders as needed.
- Innovation and Growth: Drive innovation initiatives and identify growth opportunities to keep Lieferando at the forefront of the food delivery market.
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage a diverse team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Compliance: Ensure all operations and projects comply with relevant regulations, policies, and standards.
- Proven track record of successful project delivery in complex urban environments with a strong preference for candidates with consulting backgrounds, and/or experience in retail and / or ecommerce and / or consumer goods and services.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience managing multidisciplinary teams especially in matrix organisation.
- Strong documentation and presentation skills; experience presenting to diverse audiences and ensuring alignment, informed decision-making at all levels.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to distil complex ideas into clear, compelling narratives, facilitating decision-making and strategic alignment.
- Proficiency in German and English, both written and spoken.
- Ability to travel frequently between key cities in Germany.
Additional preference:
- P&L management experience.
- Experience with digital platforms and technology-driven logistics solutions.
- Knowledge of the German food delivery and quick commerce market and customer behaviour trends.
