About the Job
We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist (f/m/x) to join our team for a three-year period (65% working time) within the DFG priority program "Engineered Living Materials with Adaptive Functions" (SPP2451). The position can be used to prepare a doctoral thesis.
Key Responsibilities
- Adaptation of a microbial strain incorporating non-canonical amino acids
- Heterologous expression of a membrane-attached metalloprotein containing non-canonical amino acids
- Click-chemistry to attach the protein to a conductive surface provided by our partner group
- Protein mass spectrometry and cyclic voltammetry to characterize the constructs
- Cooperation with a material science group and other teams within the SPP consortium
- Presentation of results at international conferences and in scientific journals

Requirements
- Master's degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, or related areas
- Good knowledge of molecular biology, preferably in heterologous expression, proteomics, and/or electrochemistry
- Openness to learn new methods and techniques
- High degree of self-organisation and ability to work independently
- Good communication skills in English
- Motivation to work in an interdisciplinary team
