Director of Strategic Initiatives (m/f/d)

As the Director of Strategic Initiatives, you will join one of our esteemed advertising agencies in Germany, consisting of a talented team of around 155 individuals.

In collaboration with the Group Head of Strategy for Europe and the agency's leadership team, you will oversee the strategic output of the agency, guiding and inspiring planning activities for designated brands and campaigns. The essence of this role lies in comprehending consumer behavior and beliefs to identify brand challenges and objectives, ultimately providing our clients with a competitive edge in the marketplace.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Development

  • Deliver insightful leadership in planning research to enhance understanding of markets, competitive landscapes, and target demographics for our clients' brands.
  • Supervise or conduct market research, develop research briefs, observe research processes, and analyze findings to create actionable strategies.
  • Drive strategic development by distilling information, insights, and research outcomes into a straightforward yet impactful brand and communications strategy that aligns with clients' needs.
  • Lead and manage comprehensive projects from initial brief analysis to workshop facilitation, strategic formulation, analytics, and reporting.
  • Enhance the strategy planning process, advocating for consistent procedural application across the agency to ensure a unified understanding of tools and methodologies.
  • Foster a collaborative, cross-disciplinary approach to new business pursuits and establish effective pitch protocols that reflect best practices.

Client Management

  • Collaborate closely with the Planning Team and Group Head of Strategy to cultivate strategic client relationships, establishing a reputation as a trusted strategic partner and authority in managing multi-layered client relationships.
  • Build strong connections with key senior clients and manage planning staff, working alongside cross-functional teams on brand initiatives.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, guiding the planning team and the broader agency in growth strategies from a strategic perspective.
  • Lead strategy-focused meetings, both internally and with clients, to facilitate discussions and drive strategic insights.
  • Present internally and externally as needed, demonstrating the ability to engage and inspire audiences effectively.
  • Take charge of all aspects of standard workshops and develop customized workshop experiences.

Leadership & Direction

  • Oversee and coach creative briefs with Planning and Creative teams, ensuring informative and inspiring briefings for Creative teams.
  • Evaluate creative work based on idea suitability, strategic realization, and customer resonance.
  • Set exemplary standards for leadership behaviors, promoting a culture of diversity, inclusion, respect, collaboration, accountability, and responsibility.
  • Encourage a high-performance culture within the team through effective management, ensuring quality selection, training, development, and performance evaluation of all team members.
  • Represent the planning department to the broader network, operating companies, stakeholders, and industry and client communities.

What You'll Bring:

  • Exceptional communication skills in both written and verbal formats in German and English.
  • A proven history of strategic planning within leading marketing communication agencies, with substantial experience in branding.
  • Experience working at an international and multi-market level.
  • Strong leadership capabilities, with the ability to build, mentor, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Experience in a multinational company, with the ability to quickly adapt to established systems and processes.
  • Cross-medium creative awareness and understanding of emerging technologies.
  • Confidence and eloquence in front of senior clients and large audiences.
  • Knowledge of what it takes to succeed in pitches and build trust within the Planning team and across agency departments.
