In collaboration with the Chair of Laser Technology LLT, the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT presents an opportunity to undertake a thesis project.
Additive manufacturing techniques, particularly Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF), facilitate the near-net-shape production of components, enhancing functional integration while minimizing material consumption. This innovative approach is pivotal for advancing the sustainability of future product designs and manufacturing processes. Unlike traditional manufacturing methods, the elimination of tooling in component production offers significant economic and ecological benefits.
The thesis will focus on developing and implementing a life cycle model for components produced through additive manufacturing within a commercial software framework. While familiarity with additive manufacturing and sustainability management is beneficial, it is not a prerequisite.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research on current methodologies for integrating life cycle models in additive manufacturing.
- Analyze the process chain and create a novel life cycle model for additively manufactured components.
- Perform ecological assessments to identify primary emission sources and strategies for reduction.
- Compile and present findings in a comprehensive manner.
Qualifications
- Enrollment in a technical or scientific degree program (e.g., mechanical engineering, materials science, physics).
- A keen interest in applied research and development.
- Strong commitment, creativity, and a proactive, reliable work ethic.
- Proficiency in German is advantageous.
