Quantum Hardware Mechanical Engineer

Your Responsibilities
- Design, construct, and evaluate vacuum systems for ion trap quantum apparatus.
- Develop, assemble, and assess thermal control systems for ion trap quantum apparatus.
- Enhance designs for mechanical and thermal stability.
- Integrate mechanical designs with laser systems and electronic configurations.
- Collaborate with a diverse and skilled team of Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Physicists, and Quantum Engineers.
- Assist in project planning and scheduling, reporting progress and challenges.
- Participate in project planning activities, risk assessment, and scheduling needs.
Qualifications
Key Attributes for Candidate Evaluation
- Proven experience in mechanical design, especially in thermal management systems.
- Familiarity with the engineering design process from initial concept through detailed design to manufacturing and testing.
- Ability to work autonomously (individual contributor/sub-system lead) while also collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Essential Skills
- At least 5 years of experience in a competitive engineering setting.
- Extensive experience in designing mechanical systems, including vacuum and thermal management systems.
- Proficient in 3D CAD/CAE tools (e.g., SolidWorks).
- Experience in stress/strain analysis and mechanical structural design.
- Knowledge of vibrational/resonance modeling.
- Experience with thermal and mechanical testing methodologies.
- Understanding of material science and its implications for vacuum systems.
- Experience collaborating with suppliers and contractors.
- Fluency in both German and English.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; a true team player.
- A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with thermal/mechanical finite element analysis (e.g., Ansys).
- Experience in designing and constructing cryogenic systems.
- Knowledge of fatigue and creep analysis.
- Familiarity with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) techniques.
- Experience using SolidWorks and Ansys or similar software tools.
