Job Description

XIAOMI's Head of Exterior Automotive Studio Design will be responsible for leading and overseeing the design and development of the exterior aspects of vehicles. We are seeking a visionary leader with strong design expertise, with the ability to manage and inspire a creative team, and the capacity to ensure that the studio's work aligns with the overall brand and strategic objectives of the company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Team Management:
    • Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of exterior designers, modelers, and digital artists.
    • Foster a collaborative and creative work environment that encourages innovation and excellence.
    • Conduct regular performance reviews and support the professional growth of team members.
  • Design Direction and Vision:
    • Establish and communicate the creative vision for exterior vehicle designs, ensuring alignment with the brand's identity and strategic goals.
    • Oversee the development of design concepts from initial sketches through to final production.
    • Ensure designs are both aesthetically appealing and functional, meeting engineering and manufacturing constraints.
  • Project Management:
    • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
    • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of design elements.
    • Monitor project progress, provide feedback, and implement necessary adjustments to meet project objectives.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Act as the primary liaison between the satellite studio and the main headquarters, ensuring consistent communication and alignment.
    • Collaborate with other design teams, including interior design, color and materials, and user experience, to ensure cohesive vehicle design.
    • Engage with marketing, engineering, and production teams to ensure design feasibility and alignment with market trends and customer expectations.
  • Quality Control and Compliance:
    • Ensure all designs adhere to company standards, industry regulations, and safety requirements.
    • Implement quality control processes to maintain high standards of design excellence.
    • Conduct regular design reviews and provide constructive feedback to the team.
  • Innovation and Trend Analysis:
    • Stay updated with the latest trends, technologies, and innovations in automotive design.
    • Encourage the team to explore new materials, technologies, and design methodologies.
    • Incorporate innovative solutions that enhance the brand's competitive edge and appeal to customers.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Transportation Design, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in automotive design, with at least 5 years in a leadership role focusing on exterior design.
  • Portfolio: Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in exterior vehicle design and a proven track record of successful projects.
  • Skills: Proficiency in design software such as Alias, CATIA, Adobe Creative Suite, and other relevant tools.
  • Environment: Experience working in a satellite or remote design studio environment.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of advanced manufacturing processes and materials.
  • Technologies: Familiarity with electric vehicles (EVs) and autonomous driving technologies.
