About the Role
The polycarbonate Research and Development team at Covestro is dedicated to crafting innovative product solutions tailored for our B2B sector in dynamic markets. This encompasses the creation of novel polymer input materials and the enhancement of their properties through precise formulation techniques.
Your Responsibilities
- Assist in the advancement of new thermoplastic materials at our research facility.
- Engage in a 6-month independent project within the laboratory, focusing on the organic synthesis of monomers aimed at producing groundbreaking thermoplastics. The synthesized monomers will undergo testing for their suitability in polymer synthesis utilizing established methodologies.
- Take charge of planning, executing, and documenting your research activities, with guidance from our experienced team.
- Collaborate closely with analytical departments to independently interpret analysis results.
- Participate in the upscaling experiments of selected polymer structures.
- Present your findings to colleagues and project stakeholders.
- Alongside your laboratory work, gain exposure to various processes within our organization, enriching your understanding of our culture and innovative capabilities.
What We Seek
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in chemistry, business chemistry, or polymer chemistry, with current enrollment in a Master's program or a gap year between degrees.
- A keen interest in the chemical industry and a desire to acquire practical experience.
- Fundamental knowledge of organic synthesis, polymer synthesis, and relevant analytical techniques (e.g., NMR, GC, GPC).
- Proficiency in MS Office applications.
- A methodical approach to work is essential.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills are vital.
- A commitment to safety and responsibility, along with a proactive learning attitude, is expected.
- Fluency in German is required, while a good command of English is advantageous.
