Role Overview

Mission Statement:

This hybrid position focuses on orchestrating and executing all testing activities related to battery systems and battery management systems (BMS). Responsibilities encompass both developmental testing and qualification assessments necessary for type certification of the final product.

You will be instrumental in crafting a secure and comprehensive battery and BMS through rigorous development and qualification testing. You will oversee the entire testing process, which includes preparation, process planning, documentation, test hardware setup, scheduling, conducting tests, and collaborating with development teams for root cause analysis.

Testing activities will cover a range of methodologies, including Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing, HIL automation, thermal runaway assessments, short circuit tests, vibration tests, and other specialized environmental tests. This role may also involve testing components or materials related to the battery and BMS, such as housing materials and engineering versions of BMS software.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the creation and scheduling of test plans
  • Define and clarify testing requirements
  • Prepare documentation for test campaigns
  • Develop and maintain testing setups
  • Supervise and support test execution with external partners while also conducting tests personally
  • Analyze test results and generate comprehensive reports
  • Conduct Test Reviews (TRRs)

Required Qualifications:

Essential Skills:

  • Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Over 5 years of experience in testing batteries or similar products within a technical environment (including Environmental Testing, Abuse Testing, Vibration, and HIL Test Setups for electrical propulsion systems)
  • Proficiency in defining and constructing test systems and setups
  • Technical expertise in Battery Development and/or Testing for High Current applications
  • Familiarity with HIL and software tools for automotive or aviation testing (e.g., LabCar, dSpace, Simulink, CANoe, PCAN)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the aviation industry and understanding of relevant regulations
  • Knowledge of automotive standards such as ECE R100, ISO 26262, or aviation standards like DO160G and DO311A
  • High Voltage training (2E) according to DGUV-I or equivalent
  • Familiarity with V-Cycle and AGILE/SCRUM methodologies and tools (e.g., JIRA)
  • Experience with PLM tools like Siemens Team Center or similar
  • Background in EASA approved Design organizations [Part-21J] and comprehension of the aviation certification process is advantageous
