Position Overview:

We are seeking an exceptional design engineer with a robust background in electro-mechanical systems, mechatronic devices, and electromagnetic design to support our Research & Development Team, which is pioneering the concept design and pre-development of the next generation of propulsion systems.

In this role, you will have the thrilling opportunity to be part of the Research and Technology Team, developing solutions that are primed for Lilium's future aerospace applications. You will collaborate closely with two of our Co-Founders who are leading this critical area for Lilium. The position reports to the Engineering Division, facilitating professional growth and training.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Lead the concept, design, and testing of next-generation electro-mechanical, electro-thermal, and electro-acoustic systems for electric jet propulsion and energy systems.
  • Focus on weight reduction, design for manufacturability, cost efficiency, and compliance with company protocols.
  • Drive the planning, execution, and reporting of technology development and demonstration activities, including prototype design, manufacturing, testing, and documentation.
  • Collaborate closely with power electronics and control engineers.
  • Work in conjunction with systems and mechanical engineers to support the design and integration of electrical and mechanical components.
  • Engage with test engineers for testing and performance validation.
  • Address ad hoc tasks or projects as assigned by management.
  • Continuously learn and explore innovative technologies, sharing insights and developing them with your team members.

Your Qualifications:

  • University degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (MSc/M.Eng preferred).
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of professional experience in mechanical design projects and composite materials within the aerospace or avionics industry.
  • Strong hands-on experience in designing, building, and testing comprehensive electro-mechanical hardware and software solutions.
  • Expertise in motor and sensor control and general controllers.
  • Familiarity with the agile methodology and rapid iterative pre-development phases of the R&T process.
  • Proficiency in a CAD system such as Siemens NX is preferred.
  • Basic skills in Matlab or LabView programming.
  • Self-motivated, agile, pragmatic, creative, and results-oriented approach to work.
  • Fluent in English; proficiency in German or other languages is advantageous.
