Arbeiten an der Charité

Located in the heart of Berlin, the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin is one of the largest and most research-intensive medical faculties in Europe. The research of the Beling laboratory at the Charité's Institute of Biochemistry is devoted to cellular response pathways that are triggered by metabolic stress, e.g. nutrient shortage in infection or hyperglycemia in obesity/heart failure. We tackle the question how the ISG15-USP18 system and posttranslational protein ISGylation can control pathogens, inflammatory tissue damage and how such pathways render the body resistant to body weight loss and maintenance of organ function, e.g. of the heart. We explore how ISG15, USP18 and their interplay affect central metabolic pathways, combining functional analysis, proteomic and metabolomic profiling.

Die Stelle im Überblick

As a group with a focus on infectious biology, we routinely work in a safety level 2 environment. Expertise in virology is advantageous, but not mandatory. The project could be on the function of ISGylation in host-pathogen interaction and on understanding the metabolic changes upon ISGylation, challenging organelle homeostasis under inflammatory conditions.
The postholder will work closely with the three PhD students and the other PostDoc in the group, will receive support from the two technicians and has access to Charité core research facilities, such as mass spec, flow cytometry, advanced biomedical imaging, metabolomics.
We expect a commitment to actively participate in workshops, retreats and lab rotations within our collaborative projects both nationally and internationally. The post involves a teaching duty in the biochemistry course of the Charité Medical School.

Basic experiences in teaching of undergraduate students
