**Research scientist in Machine Learning for Small Molecules (f/m/d)**
Meeting some of the most pressing healthcare and sustainability needs of our time, at Bayer we are leveraging the most advanced technologies to accelerate the discovery of new medicines. The talented, young and international Machine Learning Research group in Berlin is seeking a passionate research scientist (f/m/d) to join our team. Together, we will develop innovative machine learning solutions to analyse small molecules, with the ultimate goal of designing optimized drugs.
**YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Be an active member of a highly interdisciplinary and cross-organizational team
- Stay current with the fast-paced innovation in machine learning applied to small molecules
- Develop methods and (generative) models to help with molecule optimization
- Develop collaboratively machine learning approaches to estimate binding affinities between small molecules and their targets
- Join forces with other machine learning teams to bring together focused expertise into integrative projects involving different modalities like small molecules, biomolecules, and cellular or medical images. Generate direct impact on our drug discovery projects
- Conceive, execute and evaluate studies and experiments, critically interpret the results and present them effectively to various committees
- Strengthen our external visibility and scientific excellence through publishing, open sourcing code and engaging with the scientific community
**WHO YOU ARE**
- PhD degree (or M.Sc with several years of working experience) in computer sciences, computational chemistry, computational biology, physics or related fields and sincere interest for the life sciences, ideally with a few years of experience working in the pharmaceutical industry or related.
- Experience in cheminformatics, organic chemistry, quantum chemistry and medicinal chemistry
- Profound experience with state-of-the-art machine learning methods and model selection concepts; previous experience with geometric deep learning, generative models and representation learning would be of advantage
- Exposure to model explainability concepts; practical implementations of such concepts in any field would be of advantage
- Excellent programming skills in Python are essential
- Highly creative person with outstanding problem-solving ability and the willingness to undertake challenging analysis tasks
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and in cross-functional teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English
