What You’ll Do:
Reporting to our Vice President, Development - Onshore Renewables, the Head of Development in Europe will lead business development and project development activities for Northland’s portfolio of projects from the initial stages through to financial close and start of construction. You will also play a key role by creating the regional growth strategy and leading the team to deliver on this growth plan, ensuring a healthy pipeline via greenfield origination and acquisitions of development projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and secure development partners to grow and deliver a pipeline of projects.
- Lead the permitting process for renewable infrastructure projects across key markets in Europe.
- Manage regional development budget.
- Partner with corporate affairs group to develop an active northland presence in Europe, building awareness and having an external presence.
- In partnership with procurement, liaise with turbine suppliers and OEM up until financial close.
- Manage Auctions and route to market to understand investment thesis.
- Assist in managing third-party contractors (i.e., permitting, environmental, technical) for various workstreams in order to deliver a fully developed project.
- Oversee project-level development personnel and workstreams including permitting & fieldwork, community outreach, etc.
- Gather relevant information to assess risk and mitigation measures on development projects.
- Assist in the preparation of onshore portfolio progress, risks, and solutions for communication with the executive leadership team.
- Partner with the M&A team on due diligence for acquisitions of operating projects.
- Assist in special projects and other assignments as required.

- Flexible: You are agile in your approach to be successful in handling multiple projects and can adjust your working hours as required to meet deadlines.
- A forward-thinking people leader: You have built high-performing teams and naturally lead by example while focusing on supporting others to achieve project success.
Qualifications and Experience
- 10+ years of experience in development within the energy or infrastructure sectors.
- Strong experience and in-depth understanding of project development, commercial contract negotiations and project management.
- Strong understanding of onshore renewables, including markets, policy and regulations, EPC processes, and general project technology.
- Experience working across different geographies and an appreciation of global mindset.
