The job

The aim of the study is to investigate how the surrounding landscape affects the crop yield, using spatial analyses. We use the term surrounding landscape to describe the circular area around a specific crop, that can have any (ecologically meaningful) radius. Moreover, the effect of different landscape metrics varies with distance from the field. Thus, the research question of this project is: What is the relationship between the complexity of surrounding landscape and the yield of a crop field?
To support our project we are looking for a motivated student assistant. The project includes data collection, processing and analyses with the aid of statistical software.

Your tasks
- Identify online sources of yield data and collate a database
- Data cleaning, wrangling and tidying
- Editing of land cover maps

**Profile**:

- Holding a BSc degree in one of the following disciplines: Environmental or Earth Sciences
- Very good written and oral English; German is not essential, working language is English
- Basic knowledge of R programming language and geographic information systems (e.g. ArcGIS)
- Ability to work independently
- Desired but not necessary: demonstrated experience with statistical analyses, hypotheses testing and spatial analyses
