The Department for Quantum Technology in the Faculty of Physics at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill the position of a

**Doctoral Research Associate**

**Wissenschaftliche/r Mitarbeiter/in**

**(salary level TV-L E 13, 50%)**

at the earliest possible date. We are offering a fixed-term part-time position (50% FTE) for 3 years. Full-time employees are required to teach 4 hours per week during the semester.

**Your tasks**:

- Participation in the research activities of Prof C Schuck’s workgroup, including the planning and execution of independent scientific projects in quantum technology with solid-state quantum emitters and photonic integrated circuits
- The fabrication and characterisation of samples in chemical and physical processes
- Work in a clean room environment
- Construction and maintenance of laboratory setups for experiments with single photons
- Work with lasers, optics, electrical instruments, and computer control systems
- Numerical simulations and electromagnetic modelling, as well as analysis of large amounts of scientific data using computational methods

This position is tied to working towards a doctorate.

**Our expectations**:

- A graduate degree (i.e. a German Diplom and/or a master’s degree or equivalent) in physics, electrical engineering or a closely related field is required.
- Experience working in a cleanroom, fabricating nanophotonic and/or -electronic devices using modern lithography processes (such as EBL, RIE, FIB) and analysing nanostructures (such as SEM, AFM, TEM) is indispensable.
- Advanced knowledge of a high-level, general-purpose programming language, with a strong preference for Python, and experience in object-oriented programming for experiment automation and data analysis is mandatory.
- Modern nanofabrication facilities are available for developing nanophotonic circuit components, hence experience with further thin film processing and characterisation methods is highly beneficial. Prior experience using additional methods for characterising nanostructured devices and optical microscopy is preferred.
- You should be team-oriented, have good communication skills, organisational skills and the ability to work independently.
- Excellent written and spoken English is essential. German language skills are not a requirement, but a willingness to learn is desirable.
