The Department for Quantum Technology in the Faculty of Physics at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill the position of a

**Doctoral Research Associate**

**Wissenschaftliche*r Mitarbeiter*in**

**(salary level TV-L E 13, 75 %)**

at the earliest possible date. We are offering a fixed-term part-time position (50% FTE) for 3 years. Full-time employees are required to teach 4 hours per week during the semester.

**Your tasks**:

- This position is tied to working towards a doctorate within the integrated research traininggroup of the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 1459 on Intelligent Matter: From responsive toadaptive nanosystems.
- Participation in research activities of Prof C Schuck’s group and the CRC 1459, including theplanning and execution of independent scientific projects towards experimentally implementingnanophotonic artificial neural networks.
- The fabrication and characterization of samples in chemical and physical processes. Work in aclean room environment.
- Construction and maintenance of laboratory setups. Work with lasers, optics, electricalinstruments, microfluidic devices and computer control systems.

**Our expectations**:

- A graduate degree (i.e. a German Diplom and / or Master’s degree or equivalent) in physics,chemistry, electrical engineering or a closely related field of study is required.
- Knowledge of fundamental concepts in organic & inorganic chemistry, artificial intelligence,neural networks, and integrated optics is required.
- Advanced knowledge of a high-level, general-purpose programming language, with a strongpreference for Python, and experience in object-oriented programming for experimentautomation and data analysis is mandatory.
- Modern nanofabrication facilities are available and experience with work in a cleanroom as wellas the fabrication and analysis of nanostructured devices is highly desirable.
- You should be team-oriented, have good communication skills, organisational skills and the abilityto work independently. German language skills are not a requirement, but a willingness to learn is desirable.

The PhD position forms part of an intensive and interdisciplinary research program on the conceptualization and realization of intelligent matter. Intelligence is the ability to perceive information and to retain it as knowledge to be applied towards adaptive behavior in a changing environment. The CRC 1459 is inspired by the question whether synthetic matter can have intelligent properties. Such intelligent matter would provide entirely new opportunities for instance for the development of artificial skin, soft robotics with adaptive tactility, and brain-inspired computing with
