A Museum Experience for the Modern World, in 2010 Fotografiska was founded in Stockholm and in late 2019 opened its newest outpost in a treasured, historic landmark building in NYC’s Flatiron District. These iconic locations are complemented by forthcoming museums in Berlin, Shanghai, and Miami. Fotografiska’s goals are simple: to inspire a more conscious world through the power of photography, to bring people together, raise awareness and create positive change. Fotografiska is home to an unexpected mix of world-class art, vibrant cultural programming, and exceptional dining experiences.
Fotografiska Berlin will house 5,500 square meters in the historic Kunsthaus Tacheles building on Oranienburger Straße in the Mitte. The architects Herzog & de Meuron have been assigned to carry out renovations to the cultural heritage site.
**The Role**
Our Director of Food and Beverage is, above all, responsible for the planning, developing and curating of the Food and Beverage environment at Fotografiska Berlin with the General Manager, in conjunction with the CultureWorks Global Food and Beverage Leadership team. This role is equally visible front of house as with back of house operations and is a role model of continuous energy and improvement to provide the highest level of hospitality to all Fotografiska Berlin Members, Guests and staff alike. With a mandate to uphold and highlight Fotografiska’s core values of innovation, inclusion, inspiration and sustainability, the Director of Food and Beverage oversees an extensive, equally passionate and diverse team in the planning and execution of the overall Food and Beverage experience across all business units.
Reporting to the General Manager of the Museum with a dotted line to the CultureWorks Food and Beverage Leadership team, the Director of Food and Beverage will have local support from a full team on property, with peers in Stockholm and New York. Operationally and financially stewarded by an established and experienced leadership team internationally, the first 12 months will be heavily invested in the myriad tasks associated with opening a world-class cultural venue, powerfully driven by a multitude of Food and Beverage outlets in the heart of Berlin. The Director of Food and Beverage is expected to manage and innovate through ambiguity with grace and charisma, and will need to be excited by taking on greenfield projects.
**Requirements**:
- An average of 15+ years of creating and managing food and beverage operations in a highly-visible, high hospitality-focused cultural environment or related industry.
- Experience working in conjunction with multiple business units curating fine dining experiences for various audiences.
- Masters Degree or relative experience displaying a curated portfolio of proven high-end dining experiences while managing a diverse staff in both front of house and back of house environments.
- Setting the highest standards of service that are unique to the CultureWorks group, consistently working to improve the delivery of service, implementing all systems to ensure the smooth running of service.
- Proven start up experience of new Restaurants, Bars and Cafés.
- Development of maintenance programs and staff culture, ensuring staff are trained to handle equipment safely and the venue is treated with respect so that maintenance costs are kept to a minimum.
- Drive team members to identify efficiencies in the planning and execution of day-to-day operations.
- Provide accurate business unit/s forecasting and budgetary documentation and follow reconciliation procedures on a monthly/quarterly basis or as indicated by general management.
- Organize and meticulously govern business unit paperwork and inventory processes as needed and in conjunction with business objectives.
- Hire, train and manage an elevated F&B leadership team to uphold standard operating procedures created and directed by the General Manager in tandem with building-wide procedures.
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant statutes including; Occupational Health and Safety, Liquor Act, HACCP, BMEL, BVL and BfR legislations.
- Willingness to work a varied schedule, including weekends and evenings to maintain the integrity of the food and beverage operations.
- The role requires full professional fluency in both German and English.
**Administrative**:
- Oversee all food and beverage ordering and receiving, including the storage of all goods.
- Working in conjunction with multiple business units navigating through various priorities including but not limited to expanding current dining offerings to address multiple audiences.
- Regularly meet with internal F&B leadership teams to develop and execute standard operating procedures identifying discretionary revenue opportunities while maintaining the integrity of the brand.
- Drive internal teams to meticulously manage the physical appearance and behind the scenes operations of a first-class cultural institution.
