Agriculture faces the major challenge of providing sufficient food and farm incomes - while reducing
its substantial contribution to environmental pollution, biodiversity loss and climate change. **The**
**Production Economics Group** strives to identify pathways towards more sustainable and resilient
agricultural and food production systems - and to quantify the potential impacts and trade-offs of such
transformations. The chair group is located in front of the botanical garden on the agricultural campus
(Poppelsdorf) in the lively center of Bonn and offers a modern working environment with a strong
support for professional development.

We seek a motivated and talented agricultural economist to join our young and strongly evolving team
in a PhD position (65% TVL E13) with a **3-year contract with the possibility for extension**.

**Project description**:

- In this structured PhD, you will explore challenges related to the design of impact
- and result-based

pesticide policies and make concrete suggestions for their implementation to food-value chain ac
- tors and policymakers.
- The PhD responds to the challenges agriculture and society face with regard to realizing the ambi
- tious policy targets for pesticide (risk) reduction on local, regional and global levels. It will provide
answers to an important societal concern, using cutting-edge quantitative methods.
- The PhD will be based in the discipline of Agricultural Economics, in collaboration with researchers

from agronomy, agroecology, ecotoxicity, and soil sciences as well as actors on the ground.
**Your tasks**:

- Focus: acquiring the tools and methods necessary to complete a PhD, conducting and publishing
- extensive research on your PhD topic, starting to develop your own professional profile.- You will be embedded in the teaching and supervision activities of the group.

**Your Profile**:

- Master degree in Agricultural Economics (or Environmental/Resource Economics with a close link
- to agriculture, crop protection or environmental impacts).- Knowledge on the analysis of policies and/or decision-making of actors.
- Knowledge on quantitative analysis (econometrics/modelling).
- Team player: work with and support others in an (interdisciplinary) research team.
- Advanced English language skills.
- Curious, creative and driven by positive impact for agri-food-value chain actors.
